Join us for a magical story time filled with wonderful books, big imaginations, and lots of smiles! Little listeners and their grown-ups are invited to gather as we share delightful stories, playful moments, and a love of reading. Perfect for young children, story time is a cozy way to spark curiosity, encourage a lifelong love of books, and enjoy a special moment together at the bookshop.

On Friday, September 18th from 6:30PM-7:30PM, the Atwood Nature Center will be bringing in various birds of prey for you to see up close and personal. This event is family friendly and children under the age of 3 will not be charged.

Ready to introduce your kiddo to the game of Mahjong? 🀄️
Join Kristi Gorski of Social Moms of DuPage County for a fun introduction to American Mahjong designed especially for kids ages 6–12. Kristi will walk kids through the basics using a simplified Mahjong card, giving them a chance to learn the game, try out the tiles, and play with other kids in a fun, relaxed setting.
Please arrive at 5:45pm.
No previous Mahjong experience is needed! Parents are welcome to drop off or stay and observe.

This set of poetry books, Escaping the Library of Blank Slates series by Nikki Day, will take you down a path of self-discovery and focuses on a mindset of getting you to where you want to be. Sometimes we hit a point in life where we begin to will ourselves into looking at the world through a different lens - where we force ourselves to be resilient to the changes around us. It's this thought process that sparks a transformation. A New Plane follows the first volume of this collection, Train Wreck Cinema, as a cocoon is being developed in the second phases of an unintentional metamorphosis.
Nikki Day is a writer and musician with a PhD in molecular biology. After beginning her career in science and technology, she found herself searching for a deeper sense of purpose, turning to writing and music as a better way to understand her own story, while also creating a space for others to see themselves in. Her work is rooted in reflection, healing, nature, and storytelling. She released her debut poetry collection and album, Escaping the Library of Blank Slates, in 2026.

Luke Lipien is an undergraduate honors student and researcher at Auburn University. He studies marine biology but has always been an avid writer. He is from Naperville, Illinois, where his favorite pastimes include eating Midwestern fast food and complaining about the weather. Luke identifies as queer and often includes queer identities and themes in his stories. Void Seeker is his debut novel.

Void Seeker

Join us on March 14th at 12 PM for a free Micro Mosaic Demonstration led by our resident artist, Savas Arazbey. Meet Hafsa Naz Mahmood and her sons Ayaan and Azeem
Little Birdies Stories began in 2016 when Ayaan dreamt of having his bedtime stories on his library's shelves. What started as making up fun, ad-hoc stories at night evolved into a massive project—writing, illustrating & digitizing artwork, and ultimately publishing impactful children's storybooks about teamwork, unity, friendship, and diversity.
These heartwarming stories bring to life powerful lessons about friendship, teamwork, unity, and inclusion through a colorful journey of birds and animals working together. The books are a celebration of empathy and collaboration, both in their message and in their creation.
Inspired by personal values and imaginative bedtime storytelling, the book emphasizes that “at the core, we are all equal and the same—and so, so powerful together.” Young readers follow the little birdies as they face big challenges—reminding children that diversity and collaboration make us stronger.
What truly sets these books apart are the lovingly created hand-drawn illustrations. Every page was illustrated by Hafsa, Ayaan, and Azeem, who worked side by side—from pencil sketches to digital layout. The art reflects the same themes the story promotes: cooperation, joy, and togetherness. Through vibrant characters and whimsical scenes, they built a world that reflects both imagination and purpose.
